Catholic Substitute Teacher

About the role

We are seeking a part-time Substitute Teacher to teach in a classical and Catholic classroom for up to 13 hours per week at our Center located in Brookfield, CT. The substitute is called as needed when staff are out sick, but can always decline if not available on a particular day. No teaching certification or formal teaching experience is required; we will teach you everything you need to know.

Regina Caeli Academy (RCA) is a classical homeschool academy in the Catholic tradition, offering instruction in a formal Socratic classroom setting on Mondays and Thursdays. Childcare/nursery is provided.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction and classroom management according to RCA standards
• Follow provided curriculum and grading guidelines
• Uphold a traditional view of the student/teacher relationship

Requirements

• Deep love for the Catholic faith and living it day-to-day, including having received all sacraments appropriate to your state in life
• Ability to sign an Oath of Fidelity to the Catholic Church
• Strong communication skills, good organization, and timeliness
• Must pass a background check and complete RCA Safe Child training prior to teaching

Qualifications

The ideal applicant may have experience in one or more of the following (though not required):

• Homeschooling or working with homeschool children
• Ministry in a Catholic parish
• Teaching Religious Education or Catechism classes
• Teaching your own children
• Teaching in a classical or private school

Schedule

On-call hours are Mondays and Thursdays, 8:45 AM – 3:15 PM. No additional vacation days are provided, though accommodations are made for sick days as needed. See Vacation and Holy Days for details.
