Catholic Substitute Teacher

About the role

We are seeking a part-time Substitute teacher to teach in a classical and Catholic classroom for up to 14 hours per week in Phoenix, AZ for the 2026-2027 academic year. The substitute is called as needed when staff are out sick, but the substitute can always decline if not available on a particular day.

Responsibilities

• Teach in a formal Socratic classroom setting on Mondays and Thursdays.
• Provide instruction and classroom management according to RCA standards.
• Sign an Oath of Fidelity to the Catholic Church.
• Have a deep love for the Catholic faith and be living the faith day-to-day, including having received all the sacraments appropriate to your state in life.

Requirements

• No teaching certification or formal teaching experience required.
• Strong communication skills.
• Good organization.
• Timeliness.
• A traditional view of the student/teacher relationship.
• Available to attend one mandatory training day on August 3, 4, or 10, 2026 (TBD).

Qualifications

• Experience homeschooling or working with homeschool children.
• Ministry in your Catholic parish.
• Teaching Religious Education or Catechism classes.
• Teaching your own children.
• Teaching in a classical or private school (not required).

Schedule

Center Hours during the academic year are Mondays and Thursdays ONLY from 8:40am - 3:15pm.
