Job Description

The Catering/Conference Services Manager is responsible for coordinating meetings, conventions, and other special events, selling meeting and event spaces, food and beverage, and function planning services to maximize revenues and profits for the hotel.

Location

This is a multi-property role representing all Sonesta Hotels in NYC. The company is expanding rapidly and offers opportunities for growth within the hotel industry. The role is in-person and requires residency in the NYC Metro area. It involves working on-site with some flexibility for occasional hybrid work.

Work Environment

The person in this role may need to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally and stand for extended periods. The work environment is fast-paced and mostly indoor.

Education and Experience

  • High school degree or equivalent required
  • College course work in related field preferred
  • 1-2 years hotel experience required, experience in sales and/or front desk is a plus
  • Proficiency in Salesforce FDC and/or Opera is a plus
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Outlook and Words is required
  • Proficiency in English reading and writing is a must
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operational/Functional: Detail and service all assigned bookings, manage and maintain room blocks and event spaces according to Sonesta guidelines, conduct important functions and audits, prepare and distribute Banquet Event Orders, attend daily BEO meetings, assist clients with menu planning, food and beverage coordination, table arrangements, decorations, traffic flow, room set-up, group room blocks, and VIP services, check function/event room set-ups, correct deficiencies, coordinate meetings, arrange and conduct special events, prospect, solicit, and book new and repeat business, maintain Sonesta CRM, negotiate guest room rates, meeting room rental, function space, food and beverage prices, and hotel services, accurately produce and/or review sales contracts, addendums, rate agreements, and banquet/catering event orders, monitor and handle inquiry calls, assist in preparing the departmental budget, and complete special projects and assignments.
  • Financial Management: Maintain client files, update information daily, review daily postings of charges to master accounts, resolve discrepancies, or process necessary adjustments, review final bills, assist in the preparation of the departmental budget, and implement the hotel's catering and conference strategy.
  • Leading with Passion: Utilize and collaborate with resources across different departments and corporate office, lead by example, operate with integrity and respect, inspire coworkers to embrace and demonstrate Sonesta's core values and guest service standards.

Additional Job Information

  • Hourly Compensation Rate: $28.34 - $33.65
  • Base pay offered may vary depending on various factors including but not limited to job related knowledge, skills, and job specific/overall experience.
  • This position is eligible to participate in the Sales Incentive Plan.
