Responsibilities
- Engage Landlord Participants and educate them on the housing resources available, with the goal to connect them with tenants with housing vouchers.
- Help bridge communication gaps between Landlords and Tenants.
- Aid landlords in completing and submitting landlord packages.
- Coordinate financial literacy workshops for Landlord Participants and Tenants.
- Conduct outreach and establish relationships with Brokers and landlords by visiting their management offices.
- Search/secure safe, livable and affordable apartments and or rooms in small residential properties within the five boroughs of New York City.
- Operate BronxWorks’ vehicle, transport agency clients and conduct travel for long distances within New York City.
- Accompany clients to view apartments as needed.
- Inspect unoccupied apartments.
- Complete field work as required.
- Maintain clean driver’s license so that you may escort clients in company car.
- Absorb clients with navigation of various housing subsidy programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study/High School diploma with relevant experience
- One year of experience providing services around housing is preferred.
- Two years of experience in a social service setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of housing resources for the homeless population and rental subsidies are strongly preferred.
- Bi-lingual (Spanish) and a valid driver’s license from the state of residence with less than three (3) violation points in the last three (3) years is also preferred.
- Engaging personality and detailed orientated skills are essential.
- Strong oral and written communication, time management and organizational skills are necessary.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other standard business technology is required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
- Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time
- Ability to climb five flights of stairs, if required to conduct home visits and/or fieldwork
- Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents
- Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation
- Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather, including inclement weather, if required to conduct home visits and/or field work
