Responsibilities
- Assist patients in understanding recommendations from healthcare providers.
- Perform patient care functions, answer and screen medical calls, and post patient information to medical records.
- Support planning for continuity of treatment.
- Discharge patients and arrange referrals or follow-up appointments.
- Act as a patient advocate and liaison for specialty providers and social service referrals.
- Arrange patient appointments for continuity of care and other referrals.
- Provide health education to patients as requested by providers.
- Adhere to HIPAA guidelines.
- Document follow-up on providers’ recommendations and pertinent patient data.
- Ensure timeliness of services rendered to patients.
- Assist with the collection of transportation vouchers/tokens.
- Provide translation assistance when necessary.
- Assist with back-office functions as needed.
- Maintain activity/referral logs and data/logs for mammograms, Paps, STDs, etc.
- Generate and route data forms to appropriate destinations (billing, medical records, etc.).
- Review superbill forms.
- Maintain and observe ergonomic safety precautions.
- Attend in-services and/or training.
- Perform clerical duties, including preparing correspondence, filing, photocopying, faxing, and answering phones.
- Maintain complete and accurate patient records, including data entry, documentation of procedures, and assisting with processing and billing for Managed Care, Family PACT, Medicare, Medi-Cal, CHPD, CPSP, or MHLA.
- Assist with patient flow, including greeting patients, locating charts, checking/making appointments, and directing patients to appropriate personnel.
- Follow daily/weekly/monthly assignments as directed by supervisor (Clinic Manager/LVN).
- Utilize systems such as CAIR and VFC as directed by supervisor.
- Assist with immunization inventory, ordering, and reporting.
- Order supplies, maintain inventory logs, and manage supply destruction logs.
- Participate in cross-training for front office duties, assisting the Referral Coordinator and Pharmacy Technician as needed.
- Perform electronic lab ordering and process lab test results per clinic policy.
- Assist in glucometer training for diabetic patients as ordered by the provider.
- Receive and treat all patients with respect and professionalism.
- Attend and actively participate in team and staff meetings and related continuing education programs.
- Participate in ongoing training as required by supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
