About the role
The Case Manager position at DLA Piper is a hands-on role that supports attorneys in managing complex cases, matters, and entity-related duties. This individual plays a crucial role in ensuring that systems and operational functions are designed to properly track cases and matters.
Responsibilities
- Develops a knowledge of cases/matters, both factually and procedurally, to ensure proper tracking and systems design.
- Leverages knowledge to streamline tasks and create efficiencies.
- Manages budgets for both cases and matters, as well as the overall client relationship and DLA parameters.
- Supervises the development, management, coordination, and upkeep of all electronic tools to manage cases/matters and client relationships.
- Manages and trains case assistants, paralegals, and attorneys, delegates projects, and serves as the central point for all cases/matters and client-related activities.
- Acts as a mentor and subject matter expert (SME) for associates and paralegals, developing and conducting trainings for team members and business professionals in their respective practice groups.
- Interacts extensively with clients on a one-to-one basis, often serving as the primary point of contact.
- Demonstrates superior proficiency with all software applications specific to the practice group.
- Behaves as a "good firm citizen," aligning with the firm's business objectives and motivating others to contribute to these goals.
Desired Skills
- Four plus years' experience with the firm.
- Firm "hands-on" experience in specific practice groups.
- Experience relating to clients, co-counsel, opposing counsel, etc.
- Extensive experience in setting up and running technical systems to manage cases/matters.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to interact with business professionals, paralegals, attorneys, and clients.
- Proven ability to work on cross-functional teams in multiple jurisdictions, across time zones.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and attention to detail skills to handle large volumes of work associated with each case/matter.
- Advanced analytical skills to manage budgets and resources.
- Highly advanced technical skills to set-up, track, and maintain cases/matters.
- Initiative, independence, and an appreciation for the business operations side of the firm.
Minimum Education and Certification
- Bachelor’s Degree in paralegal studies, legal studies, or related field.
- For California Paralegals: Must meet the California Paralegal Requirements.
Minimum Years of Experience
- 10+ years’ experience as a Paralegal in a specific practice group.
