About the role
The Oregon Department of Human Services is seeking a Case Aide (Human Services Assistant 2) to join the Aging and People with Disabilities team based in either the John Day or Burns office, with support provided to both locations. The selected candidate may choose the office closest to their residence as their base location. The schedule includes designated days assigned to each branch, with regular on-site work supporting both the John Day and Burns offices.
Responsibilities
- Travel regularly between the John Day and Burns APD offices, following a set schedule with designated on-site workdays at each location.
- Maintain and update electronic case files, ensuring required documents are obtained, organized, and narrated daily.
- Prepare client packets, forms, brochures, and other necessary documentation.
- Contact clients to schedule assessments, appointments, and interpreters; manage Case Manager’s scheduling as needed.
- Support case managers in providing long-term care to seniors and people with disabilities.
- Conduct home visits for signatures, wellness checks, form completion, and delivery of essential items.
- Assist clients with placement visits, move coordination, and securing household items through community resources.
- Obtain bids and coordinate referrals for K-Plan ancillary services and other specialized supports.
- Monitor client safety and functioning, reporting significant changes or concerns promptly to Case Managers or Supervisors.
- Coordinate community service referrals such as RN contracts, Lifeline, Meals on Wheels, and manage facility alerts.
- Provide administrative and team support, including occasional front desk coverage and issuing EBT cards.
- Serve as a contact for Home Care Workers about vouchers, payments, and general questions.
- Manage mail, upload documents, schedule appointments, and handle calendars and office communication.
- Keep case managers informed, document actions in case files, and adapt to differing work styles to support team tasks, meetings, and client needs.
Requirements
- A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- One year of experience assisting professionals in one or more of the following specialized social program areas:
- Economically disadvantaged
- Substance use and dependency
- Disability Services
- Child abuse and neglect
- Juvenile delinquency
- Any degree in a related mental health or human services program may substitute for six months of the required experience.
Skills
- Experience collaborating well with others such as Case Managers, clients, and community partners.
- Experience handling confidential documents or information responsibly while demonstrating good judgment when documenting concerns and applying policy.
- Experience understanding and responding to client needs while supporting them through sensitive situations.
- Experience staying organized and adapting to changing workloads.
- Experience communicating respectfully with people from different cultures, whether in person, in writing, or over the phone.
Working Conditions
- Travel between John Day and Burns APD offices on a regular basis.
- Work will take place in offices, participants' homes, and various community sites.
- Travel is required for conducting home visits, completing other case-related tasks, and for attending meetings or trainings as needed.
- Rare overnight travel may be required.
- Professional work week of 40 hours per week, with possible fluctuations based on service needs.
- Rare, optional compensated overtime, including evenings and weekends.
- Work with individuals experiencing trauma or crisis, some who may have difficulty managing their emotions.
- Quick decision-making may be necessary to ensure the safety of yourself and others.
Background Checks
If selected as a finalist, a criminal history and background check will be conducted. Adverse criminal history or background check may lead to disqualification. The Oregon Department of Human Services does not offer visa sponsorship. Within three days of hire, you will be required to complete the US Department of Homeland Security’s I-9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States. ODHS will use E-Verify to confirm work authorization.

Pay
Monthly salary range: $3,642 - $4,954 (non-PERS). If you are already a participating PERS member or once you become PERS eligible, the salary range will increase by 6.95%.
Schedule
This is a permanent, full-time position represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). The position follows a professional work week of 40 hours, with possible fluctuations based on service needs and rare, optional compensated overtime.
