About the role

The Oregon Department of Human Services is seeking a Case Aide to support caseworkers with office tasks, manage visitation agreements, and contribute to risk and safety assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Support caseworkers with office tasks, managing documentation, scheduling, and giving feedback.
  • Manage and monitor visitation agreements, explain expectations, document what happens, and ensure children's safety during visits and transport.
  • Contribute to risk and safety assessments, ensure timely health and family assessments, case plans, and support decisions and activities for change.
  • Identify and connect with relatives for placements and support, and coordinate background checks.
  • Support children being assessed for abuse or neglect and help them transition to temporary placements.
  • Attend and participate in case-related meetings, staffing sessions, and conferences.

Requirements

  • A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required.
  • One year of experience working in a human services or behavioral health setting; OR an associate degree in any field; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Essential Attributes

  • Experience communicating with the public, service providers, and clients in person, by phone, and in writing while honoring cultural and ethnic differences.
  • Experience gathering documents from multiple sources, including reluctant contributors, and organizing them into complete case files.
  • Experience preparing clear, concise reports using computer systems and documentation tools.
  • Experience managing time, organizing tasks, and prioritizing workloads to meet set deadlines.
  • Experience engaging with at-risk or high-need youth and diverse communities in supportive service settings.
  • Experience using positive de-escalation, conflict management, and behavior support practices with grounding in trauma-informed approaches.

Working Conditions

  • Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm PT, with possible fluctuations based on service needs.
  • Frequent travel is required for transporting children or families and completing case-related activities.
  • You may interact with individuals experiencing trauma or emotional distress, and there may be times when individuals have difficulty managing their emotional responses.
  • You may encounter situations requiring quick decision-making to ensure your safety or the safety of others.
  • Activities may include traversing stairs, moving across uneven terrain, and assisting children (up to 50 pounds) in and out of car seats.
