Carrier Manager - 3PL (7159)
Purpose of Role
This role delivers leadership of the Transport function Domestically and Internationally.
Responsibilities
- Ownership of Transport contracts and solutions which ensure availability of services and solutions globally multi-modally across domestic distribution, import and export markets.
- Lead the Transport Team, creating a great place to work through colleague engagement, supporting the delivery of a Transport Strategy, creating individual objectives and delivering standardised and lean ways of working.
- Effective commercial management and delivery of budget, including long range forecasting, situational reviews and close monitoring of spend / trends. Delivery of incentives which reduce cost without impact on performance or quality.
- Responsible for procurement, bids, tenders and effectiveness of negotiations.
- Accountable for network performance, delivered through Transport metrics and presented to stakeholders through regular reporting and communication. Regularly reviewing supplier performance and pro-actively managing improvement plans.
- Maximising safety through assessment of practices and carrier operations.
- Consistently seek opportunities to deliver continuous improvement opportunities which improve service, reduce cost, maximise safety or deliver new opportunities.
- Own and develop the effectiveness and usage of Transport systems (including route planning and SaaS) and presenting conformance reporting and standardisation.
- Responsible for maintaining all Transport associated documentation including SSOW’s, W.I’s, SOP’s and Audits.
- Deliver internal efficiencies for Transport and the Supply Chain by addressing repeated enquiry causes, response quality and process improvement to create improvements in customer experience.
- Support the delivery of Organisational projects through adaptability of the Transport network and effective planning.
- Regular monitoring of freight rates, surcharges and associated market factors to ensure commerciality.
Requirements
- 5+ years of Transport experience, preferably in a Leadership capacity.
- Knowledge of air, road and sea markets and night network distribution services (TTN).
- Experienced in customs protocols and procedures with a strong understanding of critical documentation and contents.
- Evidence of project design, management and implementation at large scale in a Transport environment which improve service and reduce cost.
- Understanding of customer expectation and able to evidence the delivery of change to meet evolving needs.
- Background in managing 3PL operators effectively with sizeable budgets (c.£10m+)
- CPC qualification advantageous.
- Adept at managing and presenting KPI’s and budgets at a detailed level.
- Comfortable in a customer facing environment, delivering service enhancements.
- Experience delivering effective contract negotiations and carrier tender exercises from concept to delivery.
- Experience operating with routing and delivery management software (SaaS) and understanding their requirement.
- Ability to work in isolation and as part of a team.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact at multiple levels.
- Highly analytical and capable of interpreting service and cost reporting.
- Logical approach to problem solving including a desire to design sustainable solutions.
- Experienced in managing performance and KPI’s at a detailed level.
