About the role

This position is part of Y-12’s CareerONE engineering rotation and development program, designed for recent graduates (within two years of graduation). The program offers temporary placements in up to three different engineering groups within Mission Engineering at Y-12, providing job tasks, rotational assignments, and special opportunities to build technical competencies, cross-functional experience, and professional networks. The development phase typically spans 1.5 years and is followed by placement in a home department for continued growth. Participants engage in technical and professional development seminars, workshops, and lectures led by subject matter experts, and receive mentorship from both career and technical mentors, including peer mentors from previous cohorts and experienced employees who guide on specific tasks and projects.

Responsibilities

• Complete rotational assignments across up to three engineering groups within Mission Engineering at Y-12.
• Participate in job tasks and special opportunities to gain Y-12 knowledge and cross-functional experience.
• Attend technical and professional development seminars, workshops, and lectures on engineering topics and other areas of interest.
• Engage with career and technical mentors to develop competencies and leadership capabilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or physical science discipline from an ABET-accredited program in the United States, or a designated equivalent from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or ABET’s list of substantially equivalent programs.
• OR Master’s degree in engineering or physical science.
• OR PhD in engineering or physical science (advanced degrees require a technical undergraduate degree).
• Minimum GPA requirements based on time since graduation:
  • Up to 4 years post-graduation: minimum 3.0/4.0 cumulative GPA (bachelor’s), 3.3/4.0 (master’s), or 3.5/4.0 (PhD).
  • Beyond 4 years post-graduation: engineering experience supersedes GPA as a requirement.
• Must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A, which can be satisfied following employment. New hires will not be assigned duties impacting the safety basis of nuclear facilities until requirements are met.
• U.S. citizenship is required for security clearance eligibility.
