Cardiothoracic (CT) Anesthesiologist - Partnership Track, W-2

Location: Gastonia, North Carolina – CaroMont Regional Medical Center and Belmont Hospital, just outside the Charlotte area.

Status: Full-time, exempt; 2-year partnership opportunity or employed W-2.

About the Role

The cardiothoracic anesthesiologist will provide anesthetics, conduct patient evaluations, examinations, and medical histories to develop anesthetic plans. The role involves supervising certified registered nurse anesthetists to ensure safe, high-quality care with optimal outcomes. The position offers a mix of cardiothoracic and general cases, including CABGs, valves, aortic dissections, TAVRs, TMVRs, laser lead removals, and Impella placements. You will also have the opportunity to be involved in launching an LVAD program. General cases include neuro, OB, ortho, ENT, healthy peds, GI, endo, and general surgery.

Call is 1 in 10, shared equally among 10 physicians, resulting in approximately 2-3 call shifts per month (24-hour calls with post-call day off) and about one weekend per month.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and administer general and regional anesthetics and pain medication, adjusting as needed before, during, and after surgery and other procedures.
• Provide anesthesia maintenance and adjustment before, during, and after procedures.
• Maintain patient records and order diagnostic tests as needed.
• Work closely with surgical specialists and perform venous and arterial punctures.
• Perform pre-anesthesia patient evaluation and post-anesthesia care.
• Provide and monitor mechanical ventilation.
• Communicate with patients, families, and caregivers.
• React appropriately to adverse reactions and complications.
• Evaluate patient histories, lab results, and surgical plans to determine appropriate anesthesia and pain management.
• Monitor patient fluid, blood, and electrolyte balance, and other vital signs during procedures.
• Perform tracheal intubation, airway management, and extubation.
• Monitor patients post-procedure to determine safe transition through recovery stages.
• Take detailed medical histories to assess potential allergic or negative reactions to medication.
• Supervise registered nurse anesthetists and other technical staff.
• Mentor and supervise anesthesiology interns, residents, and fellows.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school.
• Completed or in-process cardiothoracic fellowship (fellows welcome to apply).
• Board certification or eligibility (BC/BE) in anesthesiology.
• Strong regional anesthesia skills required.
• North Carolina state medical license.
