Cardiopulmonary Supervisor

About the Role

Under the direction of the Nursing Director and in collaboration with the Nurse Managers, this role provides clinical and operational leadership to facilitate efficient patient flow, staff accountability, enhanced patient experience, professional growth of night staff, and achievement of organizational goals and outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Performs and/or recommends personnel management functions including hiring, coaching, counseling, evaluating, and terminating. Covers for the Director in their absence.
• Participates in system-wide councils and exemplifies high standards of leadership and professionalism.
• Mentors staff in developing leadership skills.
• Interacts and coordinates activities with local and out-of-state healthcare agents, including PHS regional facilities, EMS, and community members.
• Facilitates effective communication between administration, department directors, staff, physicians, other departments, patients, families, and the general public. Participates in conflict resolution and acts as an effective problem solver.
• Maintains current knowledge of information in the related field through seminars, workshops, and publications.
• Coordinates, prioritizes, and optimizes patient flow activities. Facilitates daily processes to expedite patient movement within the hospital and throughout the organization.
• Supports implementation of change projects/initiatives and the development of the department/organizational strategic plan.
• Initiates Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) for managing incidents or events affecting service provision.
• Participates in regulatory readiness by attending preparation committees and/or overseeing implementation of quality-based initiatives.
• Provides support for department managers with staffing decisions. Approves or facilitates placement of Internal Resource Pool and floating of unit staff as appropriate.
• Performs other required functions.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred and required within 5 years of hire (starting 9/1/2012).
• Current State of New Mexico or Compact State Nursing License required.
• Specialty Certification in area of practice and/or management preferred.
• Five to ten years of experience in emergency care.

Skills

• Detailed knowledge of nursing, standards-based practice, and shared governance, including interpretation of data.
• Understanding of human resource issues, operational budget, and financial resources.
• Ability to determine appropriate courses of action in complex situations not addressed by existing policies or protocols.
• Decision-making in matters such as staffing levels, work order, and application of established procedures.
