About the role
Innovation and highly trained staff define our Cardiac Cath Lab. As a Cardiology Tech, you will be part of a team that performs 11,000 procedures a year serving approximately 5,900 patients. The technologist is an integral part of the team and will be trained to assist with many duties, including scrubbing, circulating and monitoring during the procedure. This role offers the opportunity to gain experience that can help you transition into a growing career as a Special Procedures Tech.
Responsibilities
- Assist during the performance of diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures to treat heart disease in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
- Prepare patients and work area for procedures in accordance with departmental policies.
- Pull appropriate instruments and supplies and ensure good working order of instruments; review case for correct instruments and supplies.
- Demonstrate knowledge of procedures and techniques, including normal and abnormal ECG rhythms and/or lead changes, various hemodynamic values, normal and abnormal pressures, and ST elevation/depression.
- Monitor and record ECG and pressure waves during the procedures.
- Provide other aspects of patient care as needed.
- Demonstrate the principles of aseptic and sterile techniques as well as universal precautions throughout the procedure.
- Dispose of sharps and trash and place used supplies into case cart for processing; prepare instruments for cleaning following each case.
- Participate in stocking, replenishing supplies and cleaning.
- Adhere to all safety policies and maintain confidentiality of all work information.
Requirements
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
- Certification for BLS required.
- ACLS may be required depending on assignment.
- 2+ years of experience in a clinical setting.
- Ability to maintain professional decorum in highly stressful emergent situations.
- Ability to be conscientious, organized, and orderly and respond quickly to the needs of the healthcare staff and patient.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a Cardiac Cath Lab.
- Certification as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS).
