About the role

As our Cath Lab Cardiovascular Tech RCIS, you will learn from very experienced, advanced registry certified SPTs as well as a team of physicians who will rely on you to add to their procedures with your knowledge and skills. Our Cardiovascular Technicians will scrub and assist with interventional procedures including Cardiac catheterization and multi-interventions, Device Implants, Electrophysiology, Watchman, and Cardiomems. We also send a team to work in the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) program to assist in the Hybrid Surgical Suite.

This position, under the direction of a qualified physician, assists in performing diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures on patients. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide optimal care and treatment to the patient population.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of a qualified physician, assists in performing diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures to treat heart disease in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Performs/reviews a baseline patient evaluation as defined by scope of practice and facility.
  • Evaluates patients’ response to diagnosis, interventional maneuvers, and medications during procedures.
  • Operates all diagnostic and therapeutic equipment used for procedures efficiently.
  • Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance in the area of operation.
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors. Adheres to all safety policies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of procedures and techniques, including knowledge of normal and abnormal ECG rhythms and/or lead changes, various hemodynamic values, normal and abnormal pressures, ST elevation/depression.
  • Monitors and records ECG and pressure waves during the procedures.
  • Provides other aspects of patient care as needed.
  • Demonstrates the principles of aseptic and sterile techniques as well as universal precautions throughout the procedure.
  • Disposes of sharps and trash and places used supplies into case cart for processing.
  • Prepares instruments for cleaning following each case.
  • Accountable for the ethical, legal, and professional responsibilities related to the scope of practice, including maintaining confidentiality of all work information.

This position works under the direction of a physician. Internal customers include physicians, all levels of nursing management and staff, medical staff, and all other members of the interdisciplinary health care team. External customers include regulatory and health agencies, patients, and family members.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
  • Completion of a Cardiovascular Invasive program or equivalent experience.
  • BLS required. ACLS may be required depending on assignment.
  • Must have successfully passed the Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) exams.
  • May require national certification, American Registry of Radiologic Technologist, and licensure by state regulatory agency if applicable.
  • Extensive clinical knowledge typically achieved with 2+ years of experience in a Cardiac Cath Lab in a hospital setting or meeting the requirements of certification board.
  • Ability to maintain professional decorum in highly stressful emergent situations.
  • Ability to be conscientious, organized, and orderly and to respond quickly to the needs of the health care staff and patient.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree preferred. Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

Schedule

  • Full-Time: 4 ten-hour shifts; 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM
  • Call: Night, Holiday, and Weekend Call; must be able to make call within 30 minutes

University Medical Center Phoenix (BUMC-Phoenix), 1111 E McDowell Rd, Phoenix, Arizona. The Phoenix campus is a nationally recognized academic medical center with over 730 licensed beds, several unique specialty units, and a collaboration with the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix. The campus is known for excellent patient care and is home to fully integrated multi-specialty and sub-specialty clinics.
