About the role

The New Jersey VA Healthcare System is seeking a Physician, Cardiologist to join the department at East Orange, NJ.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and treat patients in outpatient and inpatient settings and apply evidence-based care for various cardiac conditions.
• Perform and interpret studies such as exercise stress tests, exercise ECHO stress tests, dobutamine echo stress tests, ambulatory ECG monitoring, resting ECG, and resting transthoracic echocardiogram and transesophageal echocardiogram.
• Maintain detailed notes of appointments with patients, including diagnoses, comments, tests, and/or treatments prescribed, and test results.
• Prescribe medication to treat heart and/or cardiovascular disease and provide support and advice to Veteran patients receiving long-term care.
• Provide supervisory oversight of the clinical care of residents, cardiology fellows, Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants as appropriate.
• Participate in education of medicine residents and cardiology fellows in inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Collaborate with members of interdisciplinary teams, including primary care physicians, specialists, and nurses, to ensure continuity and high-quality health care for our veterans.
• Participate in VA performance improvement and quality assurance initiatives, ensuring ongoing compliance.
• Participate in and attend CME activities and VA continuing educational activities.

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Cardiology.

Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment)

The Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) is available to eligible candidates. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
