Medical Techologist
Job Summary
The Medical Technologist Lead at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for assisting the supervisor with scheduling, quality control, maintenance programs, and work flow organization. This role also includes ensuring the accurate and efficient transportation of lab-related supplies, equipment, and specimens while adhering to all relevant laws and regulations.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Captures work flow of phlebotomists in Specimen Processing area.
Serves as Charge Medical Technologist (MT) in absence of supervisor or Lead MT.
Distribution and Transportation
Affirms accurate and efficient transportation of lab-related supplies, equipment and specimens.
Fulfills all laws and regulations in the processing and transportation of laboratory specimens.
Specimen Handling & Processing
Follows regulatory guidelines in handling/processing of laboratory specimens.
Follows proper policy for accurate patient identification and labeling of all specimens.
Communication
Effectively communicates with all NMHS staff, patients, their family members and customers.
Uses AIDET as applicable.
Attends CARES training.
Employee Relations
Works as part of a team with all Pathology and NMHS employees.
Reporting/Recordkeeping
Affirms department testing, applicable to their area, is reported in an accurate and timely manner.
Affords assistance in meeting goals of department Performance Improvement initiatives.
Affords assurance of appropriate documentation of all required instrument monthly maintenance and quality control.
Education
Affords assistance in training of students and new employees.
Participates in continuing education programs to maintain and expand skills.
Stays abreast of regulatory changes.
Regulation
Adheres to NMHS/NMMC Policies/Procedures/Guidelines.
Complies with appropriate Local/State/Federal policies/procedures/guideline/regulations/laws/statues.
Adheres to College of American Pathologist (CAP) & Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) standards.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biological Science or related field.
Required Licenses and Certifications: ASCP - American Society of Clinical Pathologist DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State.
