Medical Technologist

About the role

Kindred Hospital Riverside is a 40-bed long-term acute care hospital offering specialized care for extended recovery periods. The facility partners with patients' physicians and provides 24-hour clinical care seven days a week.

Responsibilities

• Performs analyses in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, coagulation, blood bank, and microbiology according to expected performance standards.
• Performs venipuncture, finger stick, or heel stick on identified patients by physician's request in a timely, accurate, and caring manner.
• Keeps documented records current regarding maintenance and quality control.
• Maintains records demonstrating proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
• Identifies and corrects problems affecting test performance or reporting of test results.
• Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.

Requirements

• Comprehensive knowledge of safety, quality control, and specimen handling guidelines and procedures.
• Skilled in using applicable laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, meters, microscopes, incubators, pipettes, autoclaves, and sterilizers.
• Ability to work quickly and accurately under strict deadlines.
• Working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, laboratory medicine, disease processes, and laboratory procedures.
• Must read, write, and speak fluent English.
• Must have good and regular attendance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.
• Current license issued by the State in which the laboratory is located, if such licensing is required.
• Certification as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist by a nationally recognized agency/board preferred.
• 1-2 years of acute care hospital lab experience in high complexity testing preferred.
