Full-time, benefits-eligible position in the Chemistry Lab at Carolinas Medical Center.

Schedule

  • 2nd Shift: Monday–Friday, 2:00 p.m.–10:30 p.m. (5×8s)
  • 40 hours per week

Pay

Pay range: $24.10 – $42.85 per hour. Eligible for sign-on bonus based on program criteria.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency and follow testing procedures and policies by adhering to quality-assurance guidelines for equipment and work area; document corrective action for any non-conforming event.
  • Prepare reagents, maintain adequate supply of materials for test procedures, and manage inventory to reduce departmental waste and expense.
  • Exercise clinical judgment in assessing priorities; identify, troubleshoot, and resolve test-system issues through appropriate channels (e.g., contact hotline for specialist support or arrange service when needed).
  • Assist with review and revision of procedures and documentation related to accreditation, complying with regulatory requirements for CAP, TJC, OSHA, and other authorities.
  • Maintain clear, real-time communication shift-to-shift and with leadership regarding issues, concerns, or problems that may affect patient care or department operations.
  • Participate in planning and implementing change through staff meetings, task forces, or projects.
  • Participate in competency-assessment program, where qualified.
  • Perform laboratory analysis on received specimens to provide clinical information for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases.
  • Ensure overall quality, efficiency, and safety in the performance of assigned technical duties.

Physical Requirements

  • Work in a fast-paced clinical environment with biohazardous (infectious) materials, chemical, fire, and mechanical hazards.
  • Duties may involve standing, walking, stretching, stooping, bending, and lifting light (20 lb) to moderately heavy (50 lb) loads.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required (MT, MLS, or equivalent registry-eligible).
  • MT (ASCP) or MLS (ASCP) certification or equivalent required within one year of hire.
