Business System Analyst

About the Role

Under general supervision of the Assistant Director, Applications Management within the Business Enablement Team, provide business systems analysis, research, and technical support on projects that deliver technology solutions, business intelligence, or portfolio and project management-related needs for UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education (CPE).

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with business stakeholders to elicit, document, and analyze business requirements and objectives.
• Define and analyze technology problems, translating client requirements into workable models.
• Conduct data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights that drive informed decision-making.
• Research, recommend, and design solutions that satisfy user requirements and optimize business processes to enhance efficiency and productivity while addressing higher-level divisional needs.
• Participate in the design and implementation of solutions to address business challenges, testing both technical and business compatibility.
• Prepare detailed reports, recommendations, and presentations for senior management.
• Assist in the development of business cases and cost-benefit analysis for proposed projects.
• Prepare work plans, documentation, guidance, and support for clients.
• Plan and conduct end-user acceptance testing; develop training materials for system/process implementation.
• Lead change management efforts related to assigned projects.
• Lead and manage cross-functional teams involving multiple projects simultaneously, from initiation to closure, ensuring adherence to project timelines, scope, and desired outcomes.
• Act as project consultant to ensure project management standards are adopted.
• Develop comprehensive project plans, including defining objectives, deliverables, resource requirements, and timelines.
• Monitor project progress, identify and mitigate risks, and provide regular status updates to stakeholders.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure effective project communication and alignment.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement by optimizing project management processes and best practices.
• Identify and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate project success.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or discipline and/or equivalent training or relevant work experience.
• Experience in business systems analysis, using analytical, problem-solving, and management skills to independently research, develop, take ownership of, and confidently identify technical solutions to complex problems and issues.
• Experience implementing, managing, and upgrading multiple applications as well as creating reports and dashboards.
• Experience managing projects and leading project teams including determining priorities, delegating responsibilities, exercising independent judgment, collaborating with colleagues, and making appropriate decisions.
• Experience providing technical training, documentation, guidance, and support to clients.
• Experience gathering and documenting functional and technical requirements from multiple, cross-functional stakeholders using appropriate methodologies.
• Interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills including diplomacy and the ability to explain complex technical and conceptual information to individuals of varying technical expertise.
• Technical knowledge of integrations between business systems (e.g., Destiny One, Smartsheet, AirTable, Salesforce).

Preferred Qualifications

• Business Analysis Certification.
• Salesforce, Smartsheet, and/or AirTable Certification.
• Experience creating dashboards or using data visualization applications to inform business decisions.
• Experience working in student information systems.
• Experience in quality assurance, user acceptance testing, and monitoring of key performance indicators as part of project implementation and change management.
• Experience and demonstrable proficiency with SaaS such as Smartsheet, AirTable, and/or Salesforce.
• Experience working in a technical landscape of an educational institution.
• Knowledge of LEAN, agile, or equivalent methodologies.

About the Department

UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) is the lifelong learning arm of the university. The division maintains the most diverse portfolio on campus, with programs spanning pre-college, professional continuing education, workforce development, international academic and cultural exchange, and training services for corporate and agency partners. As a global leader in continuing education, CPE serves learners regionally, nationally, and globally, with more than 55,000 enrollments annually, making it the third-largest UC Extension by enrollment. Beyond its community-facing role, CPE serves as the internal hub for online education in support of other academic units on campus. CPE employs approximately 180 employees and draws on the expertise of approximately 1,700 instructors.

Pay

Salary range: $80,951.76 – $146,890.80 annually.

Schedule

This is a full-time (100% time), hybrid position (mix of on-site and remote work). Shift and work schedule will be advised by the manager.
