Business Manager
About the role
The Business Manager is a key member of the leadership team and serves as a trusted advisor to the General Manager and operational leaders. This role provides the insight, analysis, and operational support needed to drive informed decision-making, identify risks and opportunities, and enhance overall business performance.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the General Manager and operations leaders.
- Provide business insight, analysis, and operational support to support sound decision-making.
- Identify risks and opportunities and recommend actions to improve overall business performance.
- Help translate strategy into action and support the achievement of divisional objectives.
- Work collaboratively across operations, finance, equipment, safety, and corporate services.
- Ensure the division has the systems, processes, and information required to achieve its objectives.
- Support operational leaders through sound analysis and strong business acumen.
- Promote continuous improvement and operational excellence across the division.
- Take a hands-on approach and work alongside teams to deliver results when required.
- Help teams succeed safely and effectively.
- Apply strong technical capabilities to everyday operations, utilizing advanced software platforms, business intelligence (BI) tools, and data analytics.
- Champion the adoption of automation and emerging AI technologies to modernize processes and enhance efficiency.
- Leverage technical expertise to identify opportunities for process improvement and operational effectiveness.
- Act as a key member of the division leadership team.
- Build effective working relationships across functional areas to support divisional success.
- Report directly to the General Manager.
Qualifications & Skills
- 8+ years of experience in a leadership role in a highway maintenance, construction, transportation, or similar industrial service related industry.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to identify risks and opportunities and support sound decision-making.
- Proven experience supporting operational leaders and driving business performance.
- Hands-on leadership style with a willingness to work alongside teams to deliver results when required.
- Strong technical capabilities, including experience with advanced software platforms, business intelligence tools, and data analytics.
- Experience utilizing automation and emerging AI technologies to enhance business processes and performance.
- Commitment to continuous improvement, operational excellence, and helping teams succeed safely and effectively.
- Degree in Engineering or Management (asset).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with MoTT highway maintenance contracts/practices (asset).
- Proficiency with standard Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and clean abstract.
- Willingness to relocate to Hope or Chilliwack.
