Business Development Representative (Hybrid - CA)
We are seeking a contract Business Development Representative to support customer-facing initiatives in the automotive industry. This 12-month role focuses on guiding customers through utility program enrollment and the incentive claims process.
About the role
As a Business Development Representative, you will identify program eligibility, assist customers with required steps, maintain accurate records, and transition qualified customers to Home Energy Consultants (HECs). This position is ideal for someone who enjoys customer outreach, process coordination, and representing our client at in-person dealer and brand events. Preference is given to candidates located in Northern California.
Responsibilities
- Contact customers to introduce energy program support and explain available utility incentive opportunities.
- Assess customer eligibility and guide them through enrollment steps, required forms, and documentation needed to advance through the claims and incentive pipeline.
- Move customers through the incentive process in a timely and accurate manner, qualifying eligible opportunities and transitioning them to Home Energy Consultants for deeper consultation and conversion.
- Maintain accurate notes, status updates, and next steps in CRM and related internal systems while coordinating with internal sales, operations, and program support teams to resolve customer questions and process blockers.
- Deliver a high-quality customer experience by communicating clearly, professionally, and with urgency.
- Stay current on utility program requirements, incentive structures, and process updates.
- Support opportunities to represent our client at in-person dealer and brand events as needed.
Requirements
- 2-4 years of customer service-related experience, preferably in customer success, sales support, administrative support, or other customer-facing roles.
- Strong customer interaction experience, including building relationships, resolving inquiries, and providing ongoing support throughout the customer journey.
- Experience in customer support, inside sales, appointment setting, program enrollment, claims processing, or call-center operations (preferred).
- Familiarity with utility programs, rebates, incentives, residential energy products, or home electrification (preferred).
- Experience documenting customer interactions and pipeline stages in CRM systems (preferred).
- Experience working across handoff points between sales and operations teams (preferred).
- High school diploma or GED.
Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to build rapport quickly and communicate clearly with customers over phone, email, and text.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in a process-driven environment.
- Ability to manage a high volume of customer follow-up activities while maintaining accuracy.
- Comfort working with structured workflows, eligibility criteria, and status tracking tools.
- Self-motivated with a positive attitude and strong ownership mindset.
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn CRM and workflow systems quickly.
- Proficiency in Salesforce, MS Excel, and MS Outlook.
- Adaptability to changing priorities, managing competing deadlines, and maintaining strong ownership, attention to detail, and data accuracy.
Schedule
- Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.
- Fully remote; preference for candidates in Northern California.
- Must support PST hours.
Pay
A competitive salary range is offered for this position, with most candidates hired at the median of the range based on experience and qualifications.
