Business Analyst - System Operations Center
About the role
This position serves as the liaison to the System Operations Center (SOC), Staffing & Scheduling, supporting successful system implementation, modifications, maintenance, and testing for all departmental systems from a business user perspective. This includes staffing, scheduling, budget, and payroll software. The role functions as a project manager and consultant, proposing best practices for system processes and setup. The individual collaborates with SOC leadership and other acute care leaders to create reports, document decisions and processes, develop resources such as job aids and tip sheets, and facilitate department communication. Additionally, this role may lead training sessions for staffing, scheduling, hospital unit leaders, and staff.
The SOC Business Analyst fully understands staffing and scheduling analytics requirements and serves as co-owner, in partnership with the System Director of the SOC, of management tools, system capabilities, and processes to ensure accuracy, effectiveness, and accessibility. This role partners with SOC leadership in budget meetings and with nursing leadership teams to review budget goals. The individual represents the SOC as the subject matter expert in administration, communication, coordination, measurement, and timely delivery of information to system and hospital leadership. This position reports to the VP of the System Operations Center, Staffing & Scheduling.
Responsibilities
- Act as a point of contact and subject matter expert for reporting, application processes, and system functionality to interpret data and support SOC leadership decision-making.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key partners to research and strategize solutions for improving systematic performance or addressing issues specific to the SOC, staffing, and scheduling.
- Mitigate downstream issues prior to upgrades and ensure new applications meet business needs.
- Support project implementation through the lifecycle, identifying functional and nonfunctional requirements, troubleshooting technology constraints, and optimizing business needs.
- Create and maintain reports to enhance organizational standards.
- Monitor and analyze data trends to assist leaders with census decisions related to staffing and scheduling.
- Develop training and documentation for a systemwide staffing and scheduling guideline tool for union and non-union employees.
- Design and maintain dashboards, visuals, and reports related to workflows, schedules, employee productivity, and business performance.
- Create and maintain staffing and scheduling reference tools for SOC team members, hospital leaders, employees, and system leaders.
- Supply and reconcile bi-weekly UKG data, payroll, and Power BI data with the SOC Director for review by the VP of the SOC.
- Analyze process issues and bottlenecks, applying critical thinking to core functions and escalating system problems or enhancements to SOC leadership.
- Test and analyze new or updated workflows and system functionalities to ensure operational requirements are met.
- Facilitate meetings, support organizational initiatives, and lead efforts for continuous process improvement using project management skills.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S./B.A.).
- 5 years of hospital business analytics experience.
- 3 years of hospital project management or leadership experience in a hospital system or setting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Teams, SharePoint, and Outlook.
- Professional project manager certification (CPPM) preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years of managerial leadership with data reporting and presentation experience.
- Epic certification in an applicable area.

Pay
The posted pay range is for a 40-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). The actual rate of pay may depend on factors such as FTE, skills, knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical. If eligible, a sign-on bonus may be offered based on the approved program at the time of the offer.
