About the Role

As a Bus Monitor, you will ensure compliance with Head Start policies, procedures, Performance Standards, and Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers. You will assist the Driver in providing safe transportation for authorized passengers, complete route paperwork, ensure children are buckled in correctly, attend to passenger behavior, and help maintain a positive social climate on the bus.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Driver in providing safe transportation for authorized passengers.
• Report to the assigned bus prior to the route and ride the bus during the route.
• Complete route paperwork and ensure children are buckled in correctly and safely.
• Attend to passenger behavior and assist in ensuring a positive social climate.
• Comply with Head Start policies, procedures, Performance Standards, and Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers.

Requirements

• Minimum: High School Diploma, equivalent, or Head Start parent with 1 year of experience working with young children.
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger and “S” endorsement, or willingness to obtain within 3 years of hire (reimbursed upon completion).
• Personal driving record with no more than 6 active points as determined by the Secretary of State.
• Must be at least 18 years of age per licensing regulations.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation.
• Must pass a physical examination, comprehensive fingerprinted criminal background check, and pre-employment drug screen (including negative results for Amphetamines, Cannabinoids (including Marijuana/THC), Cocaine, Opiates, and Phencyclidine (PCP)). Note: Marijuana is prohibited in the workplace or in one's system, even if legally prescribed.

Qualifications

• HS/GED/Head Start Parent: $15.50/hr
• Associate degree or higher: $17.08/hr (includes CDL credential: $17.84/hr)
• Bachelor’s degree or higher: $19.12/hr

Pay

Hourly rate ranges from $15.50 to $19.12, depending on education and credentials.

Schedule

• Full-time, program year (August–May).
• Monday–Thursday split shift: 6:45 AM–9:00 AM and 11:30 AM–4:45 PM (tentative, subject to change).
• 32–40 hours per week.
