About the Role

As a Bus Monitor, you will ensure compliance with Head Start policies, procedures, Performance Standards, and Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers. You will assist the Driver in providing safe transportation for authorized passengers, complete route paperwork, ensure children are safely buckled in, and maintain a positive social climate during transit.

Responsibilities

• Report to the assigned bus prior to the route and ride the bus during the route.
• Complete route paperwork and ensure children are buckled in correctly and safely.
• Attend to passenger behavior and assist in maintaining a positive social climate.
• Assist the Driver in providing safe transportation for authorized passengers.

Requirements

• Minimum: High School Diploma, equivalent, or Head Start parent with 1 year of experience working with young children.
• Required: CDL with passenger and “S” endorsement (or willingness to obtain within 3 years of hire; reimbursement provided upon completion).
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation.
• Must have a driving record with no more than 6 active points (as determined by the Secretary of State).
• Must be at least 18 years of age per licensing regulations.
• Must pass a physical examination, comprehensive fingerprinted criminal background check, and pre-employment drug screen (including negative results for Amphetamines, Cannabinoids (THC/Marijuana), Cocaine, Opiates, and Phencyclidine (PCP)). Note: Marijuana is prohibited in the workplace or in one’s system, even if legally prescribed.

Schedule

• Full-time, program year (August–May).
• Split shift: Monday–Thursday, tentative schedule subject to change.
• First half: 6:45 AM–9:00 AM, off from 9:00 AM–11:30 AM, second half: 11:30 AM–4:45 PM.
• 32–40 hours per week.

Pay

• High School Diploma/GED or Head Start Parent: $15.50/hr.
• Associate Degree or higher: $17.08/hr.
• Includes CDL Credential (High School Diploma/GED): $15.93/hr.
• Includes CDL Credential (Associate Degree): $17.84/hr.
• Bachelor’s Degree or higher: $19.12/hr.
