About the role

The New Hampshire Veterans Home is seeking a full‑time Building Cleaning Worker I‑II for a first‑shift position. The role involves independent cleaning, custodial, and janitorial duties across multiple buildings and facilities, with the Worker II level also serving as a team or crew lead and shift point person.

Responsibilities

• Perform independent cleaning, custodial, or janitorial duties for multiple buildings/facilities of the New Hampshire Veterans Home.
• For Building Cleaning Worker I: focus on cleaning, care, and maintenance of assigned areas.
• For Building Cleaning Worker II: serve as a team or crew lead and shift point person, providing a full range of cleaning, custodial, and janitorial duties across one or multiple state facilities, buildings, grounds, or institutions.

Requirements

Minimum qualifications

• 8th‑grade education
• No license or certification required
• No additional requirements

Preferred qualifications

• Knowledge of cleaning methods and practices in large complexes, health facilities, or buildings
• Understanding of customer service and personal service principles
• Familiarity with quality standards for health, environment, and safety
• Ability to read, write, and prepare written and oral reports
• Effective listening and comprehension skills
• Ability to follow ordered patterns and rules (e.g., numbers, letters, pictures, mathematical operations)
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
• Ability to recognize potential problems
• Willingness to maintain appropriate appearance as determined by agency authority

Pay

$14.40 – $20.80 per hour

Schedule

• First‑shift: 6:00 am – 2:30 pm
• Some weekends (additional $2.00 per hour)
• Some holidays

Career Advancement Opportunities

In‑band advancement from Building Cleaning Worker I to Building Cleaning Worker II is available.

• Must complete at least six months (full‑time) or one year (part‑time) as a Building Cleaning Worker I with a satisfactory performance evaluation.
• Promotion requires approval by agency management based on organizational needs and a recommendation from the immediate supervisor.
• Broad Group Level Advancement (Level 1 to Level 2) follows Personnel Rule 303.08 criteria.
