Pay

$14.40 - $20.80 hourly

  • Additional $2.00/hour for weekend shifts

Schedule

  • 6:00am - 2:30pm shifts
  • Some weekends
  • Some holidays

Responsibilities

Building Cleaning Worker I

  • Performs light to heavy physical all-inclusive housekeeping, floor care, and custodial activities requiring considerable use of arms, legs, and whole body movement (climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, handling equipment and materials)
  • Performs cleaning duties such as dusting, vacuuming, stripping, buffing, waxing, and polishing floors
  • May be assigned to multiple units, areas, or locations

Building Cleaning Worker II

  • Serves as a team or crew lead and/or shift point person
  • Independently provides a full range of cleaning, custodial, or janitorial duties associated with the care, cleaning, and maintenance of one or multiple state facilities, buildings, grounds, or institutions
  • May be assigned to multiple units, areas, locations, or districts

Requirements

Building Cleaning Worker I

  • 8th grade education

Building Cleaning Worker II

  • High school diploma or equivalent credential

Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience, and vice versa.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and practices in a large complex, health facility, or building
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services
  • Knowledge of quality standards for health, environment, and safety
  • Ability to read, write, and prepare written and oral reports
  • Ability to listen and understand information presented through spoken words and sentences
  • Ability to arrange tasks or actions according to specific rules or patterns
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to identify when something is wrong or likely to go wrong
  • Willingness to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties

Career Advancement

Building Cleaning Worker I to II

  • Must have completed at least six months (full-time) or one year (part-time) of employment as a Building Cleaning Worker I
  • Must receive a satisfactory performance evaluation
  • Must be approved for promotion at the discretion of agency management
  • Must receive a recommendation for promotion by the immediate supervisor
