About the role

HDR Engineering is seeking a Bridge Inspector EIT/Coordinator to join our National Infrastructure Inspection Team. This role involves performing local and national bridge inspections, assisting with bridge inspections, and supporting the bridge design group.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in local and national bridge inspections, develop inspection reports, and perform structural load rating calculations
  • Work in a team environment and independently while acquiring knowledge and experience in engineering
  • Support the bridge design group and other disciplines by applying structural engineering and detailing techniques in the development of structural designs
  • Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS in Civil/Structural Engineering preferred
  • EIT or ability to obtain promptly
  • Candidates without their EIT will be placed into a Design Coordinator job code and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression
  • Minimum of 2 years’ bridge/structural inspection and design experience preferred
  • Completion of NHI 130055 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges training preferred
  • Must be willing to work with other disciplines (bridge design, roadway design, hydraulic analysis, stream restoration, planning, traffic control) within the office, as necessary, during inspection downtime
  • Must have a valid driver's license, and have the ability to travel for multiple night stays during the week
  • This position requires physical ability to perform field inspections of in-service bridge and culvert structures, tunnel structures, highway structures, overhead sign structures, hydraulic structures, and metal traffic signal poles. Physical demands include positioning extension ladders, maneuvering small boats, driving long distances, confined space, air travel, occasionally working at night, and walking long distances on uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must have good communication skills and be willing to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Candidate should expect exposure to environmental hazards, such as, but not limited to, warm and cold temperatures, water, work-at-height, poisonous plants, snakes, ticks, spiders, and other creatures

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • MS Office, MathCAD and AutoCAD, LARSA and Prestress Concrete Design experience
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu and knowledge of engineering software packages such as: LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB-MultiPier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, midas Civil, CSiBridge, RM Bridge, spColumn, STLBridgeLRFD, or STLBridge
  • Bently OpenBridge Modeler and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3d
  • Strong understanding and hands-on use of computers for structural layout and design
  • Good communication skills and willing to work in a team environment

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.)
