About the role

Reports to the WIC Breastfeeding Coordinator and/or WIC Manager /Coordinator. Responsible for providing basic breastfeeding education and support to all pregnant and breastfeeding WIC clients.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers accurate verbal and written information about breast-feeding in accordance with established guidelines and approved resources.
  • Develops working relationships with other staff and partnering community agencies.
  • Maintains a compassionate clinic environment that supports the needs of the community.
  • Promotes breastfeeding as the normative infant feeding method within the clinic environment.
  • Provides evidence-based breastfeeding support and education to pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding clients.
  • Maintains accurate records and reports in accordance with established guidelines and procedures.
  • Facilitates breastfeeding classes.
  • Attends and participates in department meetings.
  • Completes mandatory education, annual competencies, and department specific education within established timeframes.
  • Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
  • Utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
  • Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process, and compliance.
  • Complies with established organization and department policies.
  • Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preference given to candidates who are currently or have been a breast-feeding mother and a current or former WIC client.
  • The ability to speak and write Spanish desired.
