Brief Description

The WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor provides mother-to-mother support in breastfeeding goals to WIC participants during pregnancy and after delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Builds relationships with WIC participants so they are familiar with peer counseling program and its benefits.
  • Gathers and manages referrals to create a calendar plan for participant contacts, as per Peer Counselor Work Expectations.
  • Provides basic breastfeeding support before and after delivery.
  • Solves WIC participant concerns within scope of practice.
  • Consistently exhibits Moses Lake Community Health Center's Service Standards with patients and co-workers.
  • Contributes to a supportive work environment that values the contributions of everyone.

Requirements

  • Possesses basic written and verbal communication skills, computational and computer skills, and mathematical knowledge typically acquired through completion of a high school program.
  • Knowledge of WIC program and Loving Support training curriculum processes and practices, typically learned "on the job" or through a series of training sessions.
  • Ability to read and speak Spanish and/or Russian is required.
  • Must have reliable transportation for home visits and provide documentation of auto insurance and valid driver's license as required.
  • Travel between work sites required as needed.
