About the role
The Clayton County Health District is seeking an hourly WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor. The position involves attending breastfeeding training classes to become a peer counselor and providing support to WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers through various methods.
Responsibilities
- Counsel WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers by telephone, home visits, and hospital visits at scheduled intervals.
- Manage a caseload of prenatal and postpartum mothers and make routine contact with all clients assigned.
- Provide breastfeeding information and support, including information about benefits of breastfeeding, overcoming common barriers, and troubleshooting breastfeeding concerns.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records on all clients.
- Appropriately refer mothers to other resources within the clinic.
- Attend and assist with breastfeeding classes and support groups.
- Absorb and assist WIC staff in promoting breastfeeding peer counseling through special projects and duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Experience as a consumer of Public Health, DFCS, or WIC services.
- Ability to communicate effectively with other consumers.
- Must be a current or past WIC participant who has successfully breastfed at least one infant for at least six months.
- Good written and oral communications skills are essential.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience with breastfeeding.
