About the role

The WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor is responsible for providing individualized support and education to pregnant women, new mothers, and their infants to promote breastfeeding.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one counseling sessions to support breastfeeding mothers
  • Offer guidance on breastfeeding techniques and common challenges
  • Conduct educational workshops on breastfeeding topics
  • Maintain accurate records of client interactions and progress
  • Collaborate with other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive care

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, nutrition, or related field
  • Experience working with pregnant women and new mothers
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Qualifications

  • Current CPR certification
  • Knowledge of WIC program guidelines and policies
  • Basic computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office
