About the role
The WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor is responsible for providing individualized support and education to pregnant women, new mothers, and their infants to promote breastfeeding.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one counseling sessions to support breastfeeding mothers
- Offer guidance on breastfeeding techniques and common challenges
- Conduct educational workshops on breastfeeding topics
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions and progress
- Collaborate with other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive care
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, nutrition, or related field
- Experience working with pregnant women and new mothers
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Qualifications
- Current CPR certification
- Knowledge of WIC program guidelines and policies
- Basic computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office
Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
