Summary

Responsible for visually and mechanically inspecting a wide variety of mechanical/electrical products and setting up measuring equipment to verify product, material, and equipment conformance to customer specifications. Must hold a professionally recognized mechanical inspector certification.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the most complex blueprints, assembly prints, and specifications to visually and mechanically inspect parts, subassemblies, and assemblies on all company products to ensure conformance to production specifications and quality standards.
  • Program CMM equipment and upgrade software as new releases are received.
  • Collaborate with QA engineering on inspection system projects such as automating data collection, implementing SPC, and gage R&R.
  • Perform first piece validation of CNC-generated parts.
  • Conduct the most complex incoming, first piece, in-process, final floor, or bench inspection on a wide variety of parts and products.
  • Generate Q.C. documents as required.
  • Determine the best method of inspecting new or unusual parts.
  • Plan, set up, and perform the most complex mechanical inspections by devising necessary gauging or measuring setups and/or adapting inspection equipment or fixtures.
  • Perform functional and dimensional inspection of various types of complex precision measuring instruments, tools, and gauges to determine conformance to applicable specification standards.
  • Maintain instrument calibration records.
  • Perform setups, calibrations, adjustments, and repairs of complex instruments and gages.
  • Use knowledge of shop theory and shop mathematics to diagnose causes of malfunctions or failures in inspection setups.
  • Set up and operate all standard inspection equipment, including optical comparators, hardness testers, coordinate measuring machines, ultrasonic equipment, sine blocks, and similar tools.
  • Prepare reports, summary sheets, and make calculations and plots graphs indicating rates of acceptance and rejection.
  • Notify Inspection and Production Supervisor of quality problems with vendor-supplied and Lytron-manufactured products.
  • Inspect prototype products and collaborate with engineers to devise the best inspection techniques and procedures.
  • Perform and record results from liquid penetrant inspections, visual inspections, etc.
  • Perform production testing as needed.
  • Work with government and customer inspectors during their plant visits.
  • Perform other related duties as directed.

$26–$33 per hour
