About the Role

A Barnes & Noble bookstore is a gathering place for readers and the community. As a Bookseller, you are an integral member of the bookselling team at the heart of our stores. You welcome customers in a cheerful and helpful way by saying hello, answering questions, and consistently going out of your way to connect readers with the right titles and products. You are also essential to maintaining the attractive presentation of the store and ensuring its efficient operation.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers warmly, answer questions, and assist them in finding the right titles and products.
• Unpack and shelve deliveries, tidy displays, and maintain the store’s presentation.
• Operate registers efficiently to provide quick and friendly service.
• Develop merchandising skills to maintain book and product displays, including fiction, nonfiction, children’s books, gifting, toys, and other categories.
• Support the receiving and shelving of deliveries accurately and efficiently.
• Locate books and products using your knowledge, BookMaster, or other available tools.
• Assist the café team when needed.
• Understand and apply loss prevention procedures and de-escalation techniques.
• Contribute to key sales objectives such as Our Monthly Picks, Book of the Year, Membership, preorders, and new releases.
• Build expertise in Educational Toys and Games, Specialty Games, Hobby and Collectibles, music, movies, and Newsstand.
• Maintain sections and backstock effectively while assisting customers with their shopping.

Physical Requirements

This role involves physical activity, including prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and extensive walking. You may also be required to work in other stores within the cluster if needed.

Pay

An employee in this position can expect an hourly rate starting at $16.00, depending on experience, seniority, geographic location, and other factors permitted by law.
