About the role
A busy firm in the Rockaway area is seeking a Bookkeeper/Office Manager to join their growing team. This role supports a busy CPA firm serving small and mid-sized businesses in Morris County. It is well suited to someone who takes pride in maintaining accurate financial records, managing several client books with minimal oversight, and building strong working relationships with business owners.
Responsibilities
- Oversee complete bookkeeping activities for a portfolio of small and mid-sized business clients, ensuring records remain current and accurate.
- Enter, classify, and maintain daily financial transactions across general ledger and supporting accounts.
- Process payables and receivables, including invoices, incoming payments, vendor disbursements, and deposits.
- Complete monthly reconciliations for bank accounts, credit cards, and key balance sheet accounts to identify and resolve variances.
- Prepare recurring financial statements and management reports to help clients understand business performance.
- Support month-end and year-end close activities by organizing records, reviewing account activity, and addressing discrepancies.
- Maintain orderly client accounting documentation and respond to bookkeeping questions from clients and business owners.
- Partner with CPAs and internal accounting staff to keep client books aligned for reporting, compliance, and tax preparation needs.
- Assist with payroll-related bookkeeping tasks and provide practical support to clients using QuickBooks when needed.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of bookkeeping or full-cycle accounting experience in a client-facing or multi-entity environment.
- Demonstrated ability to manage several sets of books independently while meeting deadlines and balancing priorities.
- Strong hands-on experience with QuickBooks; familiarity with QuickBooks Online is an advantage.
- Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger activity, and core accounting principles including debits and credits.
- Proven experience performing bank and credit card reconciliations with a high level of accuracy.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the ability to work efficiently with accounting data and reports.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with confidence interacting directly with clients and business owners.
- Strong organizational skills and close attention to detail when reviewing financial information and resolving discrepancies.
Pay
This role pays between $75,000 and $85,000 annually depending on experience.
