BLACK STUDIES: Adjunct / Substitute Instructor POOL (college credit)
This is an adjunct (part-time/substitute) instructor pool for Black Studies courses across the San Diego Community College District. Applications are accepted continuously, but there may not be immediate openings. If selected, you will be contacted when a department seeks your qualifications. Assignments may include day, evening, weekend, and/or off-campus classes.
About the Role
Primary duties involve curriculum and teaching, divided between lecture and lab classes as determined by the department. Adjunct faculty are required to be available to students outside of class and must maintain professional conduct, current subject knowledge, and accurate records.
- Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines.
- Create and maintain an environment that emphasizes teaching, learning, and free discussion of ideas.
- Teach all scheduled classes and fulfill professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member.
Responsibilities
- Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
- Stay current in subject matter areas relevant to Black Studies.
- Demonstrate cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds.
Qualifications
Degrees must be from regionally accredited institutions.
- Master’s degree in Black Studies, African-American Studies, or Africana Studies; OR
- Bachelor’s degree in Black Studies, African-American Studies, or Africana Studies AND a Master’s degree in Ethnic Studies; OR
- The equivalent.
- Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity, and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students and staff.
Desired Qualifications
- California Community College Instructor Credential in Ethnic Studies (valid for life).
Pay
Salary placement follows the Adjunct College Salary Schedules. Initial placement is at the first class/step until official transcripts are submitted. Advanced coursework may qualify for higher placement upon verification.
