ETHNIC STUDIES: Adjunct / Substitute Instructor POOL (college credit)

This is an adjunct (part-time/substitute) instructor pool for the San Diego Community College District. Applications are accepted continuously, though openings are not always immediately available. If you meet the required minimum qualifications, your application will be included in the adjunct pool for possible assignments in the fall, spring, and/or summer semesters. Assignments may include a combination of day, evening, weekend, and/or off-campus classes, and applicants should live within commuting distance to San Diego.

About the Role

Adjunct faculty members focus on curriculum and teaching, with assignments divided between lecture and lab classes as determined by the department. Instructors are required to be available to students outside of class and must maintain a professional, ethical, and current knowledge in their subject matter areas.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines.
• Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
• Fulfill professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member.
• Teach all scheduled classes and maintain accurate records.
• Provide quality instruction and create an environment that emphasizes teaching, learning, and free discussion of ideas.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in African American Studies, Black Studies, Africana Studies, Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Chicana/o Studies, Asian American Studies, Native American Studies, American Indian Studies, or Ethnic Studies from a regionally accredited institution; OR the equivalent.
• Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.

Desired Qualifications

• California Community College Instructor Credential in Ethnic Studies (valid for life).

Pay

Salary placement is based on the Adjunct College Salary Schedules and is contingent upon receipt of official transcripts and/or foreign degree evaluations. Initial placement is at the first class/step until official transcripts are submitted. View the current salary schedule.

Conditions of Employment

• Submit official college transcripts (even if a degree is not required).
• Provide a Certificate of Tuberculosis Exam for initial appointment (renewable every 4 years).
• Complete fingerprinting via Live Scan at the district’s expense (clearance required before the first day of employment).
• Present original documents for proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

Note: Employees may be transferred to any site at the option of the Chancellor.
