Asian American Studies: Adjunct / Substitute Instructor POOL (college credit)

This is an adjunct (part-time/substitute) instructor pool for Asian American Studies courses across the San Diego Community College District. Applications are accepted continuously, but do not guarantee immediate openings. If you meet the minimum qualifications, your application will remain in the pool for potential assignments in fall, spring, or summer semesters. Assignments may include day, evening, weekend, and/or off-campus classes, and are offered on an as-needed basis. Applicants should live within commuting distance to San Diego.

About the Role

Part-time/temporary faculty positions offer flexible hours and the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students in achieving their educational goals. Assignments may include a combination of lecture and lab classes as determined by the department.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines.
• Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
• Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas.
• Fulfill professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member.
• Teach all scheduled classes.
• Maintain accurate records.
• Provide quality instruction and create an environment that emphasizes teaching and learning, encouraging free discussion of ideas, interests, and issues.
• Be available to students outside of class.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Degrees must be from regionally accredited institutions.

• Master’s degree in Asian American Studies, OR
• Master’s degree in Ethnic Studies AND Bachelor’s degree in Asian American Studies, OR
• The equivalent.

Desired Qualifications:

• Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.

Equivalency: If you do not possess the exact degrees listed above or anticipate receiving the required degree prior to the start of teaching, complete a Request for Equivalency Form during the application process.

Foreign Degrees: Applicants with foreign degrees must have their coursework evaluated by a professional association that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or Academic Credentials Evaluation Institute, Inc. (ACEI). A copy of the evaluation must be submitted with your application.

Pay

Salary placement is based on the Adjunct College Salary Schedules. Initial placement is at the first class/step until official transcripts are submitted. Instructors with advanced coursework may be placed at a higher class/step upon receipt of official transcripts. View the current salary schedule.

Conditions of Employment

• Submit official transcripts as stated on the application.
• Provide a Certificate of Tuberculosis Exam for initial appointment (renewable every 4 years).
• Complete fingerprinting via Live Scan at the district’s expense (clearance required before the first day of employment).
• Present original documents for proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
