Job Responsibilities
The Benefits Counselor is responsible for providing comprehensive support and guidance to employees regarding institutional benefits, retirement programs, payroll-related processes, and employee wellness initiatives. This position assists with New Hire Orientation, counsels both new and current employees on PEBA Insurance and Retirement Benefits, ensures compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) by monitoring the submission and approval of weekly timesheets, and supports the implementation of employee education programs. The role requires interpreting and communicating policies, procedures, and regulations related to benefits administration, retirement programs, leave management, and timekeeping practices. The Benefits Counselor monitors compliance with applicable federal, state, and institutional regulations and assists with audits, reporting requirements, and process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and customer service.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree and professional experience in insurance or retirement programs.
- Direct experience with administering PEBA insurance and retirement benefits (if applicable).
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to review written materials and financial information and detect discrepancies.
- Ability to multitask and organize/process a large volume of work with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to read, interpret, understand, and explain policies, procedures, regulations, and statutes.

Skills
The Benefits Counselor is expected to provide professional, responsive, and customer-focused service while fostering positive working relationships with faculty, staff, administrators, and external stakeholders in support of the mission and goals of Midlands Technical College.

Pay
