About the role
You will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of employee benefit programs for a multi-state workforce. You will ensure benefit plans are administered accurately and in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while delivering a high-quality employee experience. As a key liaison between employees, vendors, brokers, and internal stakeholders, you will provide guidance on benefit programs, resolve complex issues, and support organizational wellness and total rewards initiatives. This role requires exercising independent judgment and discretion in interpreting and applying benefits and leave policies, including making determinations in complex situations that impact employees and organizational compliance.
Specializations
This position requires extensive knowledge of employee benefits laws, regulations, and processes. Key areas of expertise include:
- Interpreting federal and state leave and benefits regulations and determining appropriate application in complex or ambiguous situations.
- Exercising independent judgment in approving, denying, or modifying benefits determinations.
- Applying advanced knowledge and judgment beyond standardized procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience administering employee benefits and leaves of absence. Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Strong knowledge of ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA, Section 125 plans, retirement plans, disability programs, and benefits administration best practices.
- Working knowledge of FMLA and state leave laws (e.g., CA, CO), ADA.
- Proficiency with HRIS and benefits administration systems. Prefer experience with ADP Workforce Now.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and benefits-related reporting and analysis.
- Demonstrated experience working with multi-state or distributed workforces.
- High level of discretion and ability to handle confidential information.
- Experience and commitment to working with multiethnic, multicultural, low-income populations.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, especially Microsoft Teams).
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
This position requires driving on behalf of the company. Candidates must hold a valid driver’s license, meet the company’s motor vehicle record (MVR) standards, meet company insurance eligibility, and comply with all state and federal driving requirements. Ongoing employment is contingent upon maintaining an acceptable driving record.
Qualifications
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred to effectively communicate with Spanish-speaking clients and stakeholders.
- CEBP or CBP certification preferred.
