About the Role

Under the direction of the Behavioral Lab Director (a Rady School of Management faculty member), this position manages the day-to-day operations of the UCSD Rady School's behavioral lab. This position schedules and oversees data collection activities; schedules, trains and supervises a team of volunteer/student research assistants; manages the logistical and financial details of the lab; supervises the process of recruiting participants for experiments; finally, the lab coordinator reviews faculty experiments and "translates" them from the planning stage to concrete protocols that research assistants can implement. This position ensures compliance with human subjects research policies and ensures that all experiments follow the lab's established practices. It follows UCSD policy in keeping meticulous records regarding participant payment, overseeing cash handling for participant payments, and reconciling other lab expenses. This position also conducts outreach to increase the lab's visibility and may maintain software, online tools, and the lab's website. The position may assist with preparing and editing research findings for publication and may assist with grant writing. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

Qualifications

  • Experience with human test subjects.
  • Experience anticipating and solving unusual situations in research involving human subjects.
  • Familiarity with human subjects protocols.
  • Ability to monitor all activities for compliance with human subject protocols.
  • Experience or college coursework in research design, data collection and processing, data analysis.
  • College coursework in the social or hard sciences.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and applying protocols in conducting research.
  • Experience following step-wise experimental protocols.
  • Experience training others.
  • Experience or ability to monitor performance and provide appropriate feedback.
  • Ability to process timecards, recruit & select staff.
  • Experience troubleshooting problems or unexpected mishaps.
  • Experience using Prolific, Mechanical Turk, Qualtrics, and/or SONA, or otherwise conducting online human subjects research.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of the social sciences required through a B.A. in or BS in the social sciences or natural sciences or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and laboratory experience.
  • Strong organizational skills to order, monitor, and secure records, inventory, supplies, documents, raw data, literature searches, etc.
  • Experience using spreadsheets and databases.
  • Interest in behavioral experiments, techniques, research, and literature.
  • Interpersonal skills including tact, flexibility, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish a rapport.

Preferred Skills

  • Editing skills; experience editing papers for publications, grants, research proposals and papers.
  • Experience organizing and supervising a lab with many student volunteer assistants.
  • Experience providing onsite direction and training to student volunteers.
  • Experience scheduling volunteers and making last-minute alterations due to scheduling issues.
  • Experience addressing scheduling/attendance issues with volunteers.
  • Experience overseeing payments to research participants.
  • Experience establishing and following policies regarding chain of custody for cash payments for volunteers.
  • Experience with cash collection and cash collection protocols.

Pay

Hiring pay scale: $68,430 - $80,201/year. Annual full pay range: $68,430 - $110,078 (will be prorated if appointment percentage is less than 100%). Hourly equivalent: $32.77 - $52.72.

Schedule

Days, 8 hrs/day, Onsite Monday-Friday. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
