Basil L. Gildersleeve Professor of Classics
About the Role
The Department of Classics at the University of Virginia invites applications for the Basil L. Gildersleeve Professorship in Classics, an endowed chair awarded to faculty of exemplary distinction. The anticipated start date is August 10, 2026. We seek a scholar with internationally recognized expertise in any field of ancient Latin literature. The new colleague will teach graduate and undergraduate students at all levels (two courses per semester), share in departmental leadership, and contribute to collaborations within the University's academic community. The appointment is at the Full Professor level, but Associate Professors with exceptional records will be considered.
