Barback

About the role

The Barback ensures the bar is set and maintained so that bar staff can run an effective operation. Duties include preparing juices and garnishes, restocking coolers and storage areas, maintaining cleanliness, delivering food to bar guests, and setting up and breaking down the bar. Must be pleasant, conscientious, and professional with good knowledge of alcoholic beverage selections and garnish techniques. Must operate effectively as part of a team, communicate clearly, and ensure smooth service operations and quality service.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with servers to ensure communication about guest wants and needs.
• Bus the bar and maintain cleanliness of the bar area.
• Stock all mis-en-place for bar service.
• Serve and refill water, coffee, and tea.
• Stock and organize all beverages in the bar area, including alcohol, juices, mixers, etc.
• Polish glass and silverware.
• Maintain a clean, safe environment in the dining room and all service stations.
• Fully understand and comply with all federal, state, county, and municipal regulations pertaining to health, safety, and labor requirements.

Requirements

• Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in communication with guests, suppliers, and colleagues.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic computer skills and complete knowledge of POS systems.
• Knowledge of table settings, service ware, and menu items, including prices and preparation methods.
• Ability to use suggestive selling techniques.
• Complete knowledge of products and specifications outlined in the dinner menu.
• Must meet minimum age requirements to serve alcohol.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Prior hospitality and/or food & beverage experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift equipment and supplies of at least 30 lbs. regularly.
• Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 75 lbs. regularly.
• Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours.
• Continuous talking, hearing, and vision (near vision and depth perception) required for communication and service.
