About the role
Prepare food items in accordance with production requirements and quality standards while maintaining a safe, sanitary work environment. Deliver warm, knowledgeable service to ensure guests feel confident in their choice to stay with us.
Responsibilities
- Prepare all food items according to standard recipes and guest checks, following company and brand standards for consistency and guest satisfaction.
- Prepare daily requisitions for supplies and food items for production.
- Visually inspect, select, and use only food items of the highest standard in menu preparation.
- Check and control proper storage and portion control to maintain product quality.
- Maintain cleanliness of all refrigeration, equipment, storage, and working areas to comply with health department regulations.
- Operate all kitchen equipment (stoves, ovens, broilers, slicers, steamers, kettles, etc.).
- Report all maintenance issues promptly.
- Properly receive and store food and other deliveries.
- Consult with upper kitchen management and related departments daily.
- Participate in long-range planning and ongoing hotel programs for continuous improvement.
- Participate in physical inventories.
Guest Relations
- Be readily available and approachable for all guests.
- Take proactive approaches to address guest concerns.
- Follow property-specific second effort and recovery plans.
- Extend professionalism and courtesy to guests at all times.
- Adhere to all applicable company Standard Operating Procedures.

Safety and Security Skills
- Properly handle and account for keys.
- Be knowledgeable of policies regarding emergency procedures, lost and found items, and security concerns.
Requirements
- High School diploma, secondary qualification, or equivalent.
- Experience with Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Wyndham, or Hyatt processes and standards.
- Ability to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Basic computational ability.
- Ability to read and follow recipes.
- Ability to physically demonstrate culinary techniques, including cutting, cooking principles, plate presentation, safety, and sanitation practices.
- Ability to create, build, handle, and dismantle buffet displays up to 8 feet high, including ice carvings.
Physical Demands
- Work indoors in moderate, controlled temperatures but must be able to work in extreme temperatures (freezers at -10°F and kitchens at +110°F) for up to one hour or more.
- Stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 4 hours at a time.
- Grasp, lift, and carry items up to 50 pounds, including knives, pots, and display items.
- Perform cutting skills on work surfaces 3 to 4 feet in height.
- Use and handle kitchen machinery such as slicers, buffalo choppers, grinders, and mixers.
- Subject to noise levels requiring shouting to be heard above ambient noise.
- Exert well-paced ability in limited spaces and reach other hotel locations on a timely basis.
- Bend, stoop, squat, and lift up to 50 lbs. regularly; stretch to fulfill cleaning and inspection tasks.
- Lift trays of food or food items weighing up to 30 lbs. regularly.
- Push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs. regularly.
- Perform tasks requiring grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening, hearing, and visual acuity.
- Continuous talking and hearing to communicate with guests, supervisors, and co-workers.
- Continuous vision requirements, including near vision and depth perception.
- Manual dexterity to operate necessary equipment and finger dexterity for office equipment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any government-required licenses, certificates, or permits.
