About the role
The Bakery Manager oversees the Bakery department at Plum Market, ensuring high standards of quality, service, and innovation.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the Bakery team, providing training, scheduling, and support to maintain high performance.
- Maintain a fresh and visually appealing assortment of bakery items, including breads, pastries, desserts, and seasonal items.
- Oversee production, ordering, receiving, and inventory management to ensure product availability and minimize waste.
- Execute merchandising plans, display resets, and promotional features to drive sales and enhance the Guest experience.
- Monitor labor and cost controls, adjusting as necessary to stay within budget and maximize profitability.
- Provide regular feedback and coaching to Team Members to promote engagement, retention, and growth.
- Partner with Store Leadership, Culinary Team, and Support Office to align on product innovation, seasonal planning, and cross-department collaboration.
- Engage with Customers, respond to inquiries, and create a welcoming environment at the Bakery counter.
- Maintain department cleanliness, organization, and operational readiness at all times.
- Uphold all Plum Market policies, procedures, and standards for workplace conduct and team expectations.
Requirements
- Proven ability to manage a diverse team and multiple product lines simultaneously.
- Minimum of six months’ buying experience for store-level departments.
- Experience maintaining labor schedules, profit margins, and inventory controls.
- Strong understanding of bakery operations, including packaging, food safety, and merchandising.
- Ability to analyze sales trends and respond strategically to improve department performance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Apps and the ability to adapt to new software solutions.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Physical ability to stand and walk for up to 4 hours without a break, bend, stoop, lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted, and push/pull carts up to 100 lbs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or related field preferred.
- At least three years of relevant experience in a retail or foodservice setting, preferably in a managerial capacity.
- Experience in bakery operations, including packaging, food safety, and merchandising.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
