About the Role

Bakery Clerks assist in the total operation of the Bakery Department, helping with production, preparation, and maintenance of bakery items, ensuring shelves and cases are stocked, fresh, and clean. They also educate guests about Lee’s wide range of bakery options and services.

Responsibilities

• Helps with the production, development, preparation, and maintenance of Bakery items in accordance with recipes and quality standards.
• Aids in displaying and restocking Bakery products.
• Maintains accurate food inventories.
• Learns and educates customers about Lee’s Marketplace bakery products and services.
• Maintains training and certification by attending in-person trainings and utilizing digital training platforms.
• Processes and completes orders through digital and in-person order processing.
• Provides excellent guest service by greeting and assisting guests, answering inquiries, and resolving issues.
• Stocks shelves and maintains displays according to store standards.
• Ensures product freshness by monitoring quality, rotating stock, and checking expiration dates.
• Packages and labels products using a computer program.
• Assists in maintaining proper freshness, pricing, code dating, merchandising of products in compliance with company policies and procedures.
• Maintains a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety and sanitation procedures.
• Operates cash registers and handles transactions accurately, following store policies on returns, exchanges, and refunds.
• Collaborates with team members to achieve store goals, participates in meetings and training sessions, and assists other departments as needed.
• Works in a fast-paced, sometimes crowded environment with tact and patience, ensuring products are sold before their expiration date.
• Attends departmental, store, and company meetings as required, promoting a harassment-free environment, and reporting any potential harmful situations to management.

Requirements

• Age Requirement: 18 years+
• Food Handler's Permit required (can be obtained after hired)
• Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Willingness to work varied hours according to store needs
• Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, twist, sit, and bend for extended periods; lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds; use manual dexterity for handling small objects and operating equipment; perform repetitive hand and arm movements; stoop, crouch, kneel, or crawl occasionally; lift up to 50 pounds at times; use step stools or ladders occasionally.
• Tools and Machinery: Commercial mixers, pallet jack, wheeler, trash compactor, oven, fryers, slicers/knives, wrapping machine, scales, sheeters, trays, pans, racks, tempering tools, temperature-controlled rooms, computers, phones, and any other items deemed necessary for the role.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
• Previous experience in retail or guest service (preferred)
• Previous specialty cheese experience (preferred)
• Ability to write, speak, hear, and understand the spoken word to respond promptly to pages, requests, team members, and guests
• Basic math skills for handling cash transactions
• Good verbal communication skills
• Ability to operate cooking machinery
