Position Summary
Lee’s Marketplace is a family-owned grocery chain dedicated to providing a delightful shopping experience for guests. Bakery Clerks assist in the total operation of the Bakery Department, ensuring the quality and presentation of baked goods, and providing excellent customer service.
Primary Position Duties
- Helps with the production, development, preparation, and maintenance of Bakery items in accordance with recipes and quality standards.
- Aids in the displaying and restocking of Bakery products, ensuring shelves and cases are filled, fresh, rotated, faced, and cleaned.
- Maintains accurate food inventories.
- Learns and educates customers about Lee’s Marketplace bakery products and services.
- Maintains training and certification by attending in-person trainings and utilizing digital training platforms.
- Processes and completes orders through digital and in-person order processing.
- Performs other responsibilities as needed.
Guest Service
- Greet and assist guests in a friendly and courteous manner.
- Provide knowledgeable answers to guest inquiries.
- Promote and exemplify a high level of morale within the department and store.
- Handle guest complaints and issues professionally.
- Prepare and process guest orders promptly and finalize purchases in a friendly manner.
- Show excellent problem-solving skills and find the best resolution that embodies the "Lee’s Way" philosophy.
- Be familiar with and assist customers with the use of Lee’s Marketplace website.
Product Handling
- Stock shelves and maintain displays according to store standards.
- Ensure product freshness by monitoring production quality, rotating stock, and checking expiration dates.
- Package and label products using a computer program.
- Assist in unloading deliveries and organizing stock rooms as needed.
- Operate commercial mixers, pallet jacks, wheeled carts, trash compactors, ovens, fryers, slicers/knives, wrapping machines, scales, sheeters, trays, pans, racks, tempering tools, and temperature-controlled rooms.
Cleanliness and Safety
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Follow all safety and sanitation procedures.
- Report any safety hazards or equipment issues to management.
- Adhere to all food safety and sanitation regulations.
- Contribute to the cleaning responsibilities in the department as management sees fit.
Cash Handling (if applicable)
- Operate cash registers and handle transactions accurately.
- Follow store policies on returns, exchanges, and refunds.
- Ensure the security of cash and other financial transactions.
Team Collaboration
- Work cooperatively with team members to achieve store goals.
- Participate in team meetings and training sessions.
- Assist other departments as needed.
- Work in a fast-paced, sometimes crowded, sales environment with tact and patience.
- Ensure products are sold well before their expiration date.
- Attend departmental, store, and company meetings as required.
- Contribute to profits and revenues and meet productivity standards.
- Refer to the Team Member Handbook continually to ensure policies and procedures are followed.
- Promote a harassment-free environment and report any potential harmful situations to management.
Position Requirements
- Age Requirement: 18 years+
- Food Handler's Permit required (can be obtained after hired)
- Availability: Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Willingness to work varied hours according to the needs of the store.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, twist, sit, and bend for extended periods; ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds; manual dexterity for handling small objects and operating equipment; repetitive use of hands and arms to push, pull, carry, lift, reach, grip, and balance; occasional stoop, crouch, kneel, or crawl; prolonged periods standing and walking; must be able to access and navigate all areas of the store; must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times; lifting may include floor to shoulder and overhead lifting repeatedly; occasional use and climbing of step stools or ladders are required.
- Tools and Machinery: Commercial mixers, pallet jack, wheeler, trash compactor, oven, fryers, slicers/knives, wrapping machine, scales, sheeters, trays, pans, racks, tempering tools, temperature-controlled rooms, computers, phones, and any other items seen fit for the role.
Education or Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Previous experience in retail or guest service (preferred).
- Previous specialty cheese experience (preferred).
- Drive skills and abilities: Ability to write, speak, hear, and understand the spoken word to respond promptly to pages, requests, team members, and guests; ability to work in a fast-paced environment; basic math skills for handling cash transactions; good verbal communication skills; ability to operate cooking machinery.

- Competitive hourly wage/salary.
- Paid time and a quarter on Sundays.
