Grocery Clerk-Evening Shift-Smithfield

The Grocery Clerk plays a crucial role in maintaining a well-stocked, clean, and organized grocery department.
Primary Position Duties
Assist with daily operations, including product stocking, rotation, and merchandising to boost sales and product quality.
Provide excellent customer service by answering questions, locating items, handling concerns professionally, and offering product suggestions.
Maintain department cleanliness and adhere to health and company standards.
Report inventory needs and maintenance issues to the Grocery Manager.
Communicate effectively with vendors and partners.
Complete assigned tasks to the best of your ability.
Assist with frontend responsibilities during peak times (cashiering, bagging, gathering carts).
Guest Service
Greet customers warmly and offer assistance in locating or learning about grocery products.
Resolve customer complaints or product concerns professionally and promptly.
Provide recommendations and product knowledge to enhance the shopping experience.
Coordinate with guests regarding special orders.
Ensure shelves are fully stocked and presentable to support a positive guest impression.
Product Handling
Maintain displays according to store standards.
Absorb product freshness by verifying date coding and assisting with product rotation.
Record all damaged product and store it in designated cooler areas.
Stock all grocery products using proper rotation (FIFO) to ensure freshness.
Handle products safely and according to food safety guidelines, including cold chain management.
Maintain accurate inventory levels through cycle counts and shrink control.
Cleanliness and Safety
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Follow all safety and sanitation procedures.
Report any safety hazards or equipment issues to management.
Provide an example for other team members to maintain a clean and safe environment.
Cash Handling
Willing to assist the Frontend by being a backup Cashier during rushes.
Operate POS system efficiently and accurately.
Confidently accept various forms of payment, including cash, card, check, WIC, and EBT.
Follow store policies on coupons, returns, exchanges, and refunds.
Ensure the security of cash and other financial transactions.
Handle money responsibly, including drawer counts and change accuracy.
Use POS and register system only when directed by the Frontend Manager/Supervisor.
Work scheduled rotational shifts in the self-checkout area, monitoring guest transactions, providing assistance as needed, and remaining alert to prevent theft or misuse of the equipment.
Team Collaboration
Work cooperatively with team members to achieve store goals.
Promote a high level of morale within the department and store, utilizing friendly but professional methods of honest and open communication.
Build and support a culture based on relationships and continuous improvement.
Continually strive to build knowledge and skills, both personally and within the department and store through training and education of self and other team members.
Provide a professional example for other team members to follow.
Attend team meetings and training sessions.
Assist other departments as needed.
Work in a fast-paced, sales environment with tact and patience.
Work with team to ensure products are sold well before their expiration date.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, twist, sit, and bend for extended periods.
Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Manual dexterity for handling small objects and operating equipment.
Repetitive use of hands and arms to push, pull, carry, lift, reach, grip, and balance.
Occasional stoop, crouch, kneel, or crawl.

Education or Skills
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Basic computer proficiency.
Previous customer service experience preferred.
Ability to write, speak, hear, and understand the spoken word to respond promptly to pages, requests, team members, and guests.
Basic knowledge of food safety or willingness to complete training.
Punctual, dependable, and able to follow instructions.
Ability to implement solutions quickly and effectively.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to handle team member, guest, and vendor inquiries and complaints effectively.
Ability to read and follow instructions.
Great verbal and written communication skills.
