About The Role Join Oracle Health as a Principal Backend Developer within the Clinical Applications Engineering team. This pivotal role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, cloud-native electronic health record (EHR) applications that revolutionize healthcare workflows. You will be instrumental in building solutions that support clinical inbox, messaging, and provider workflow experiences, directly impacting how clinicians communicate, coordinate care, and manage patient information. This position requires a seasoned software engineer with a strong backend focus, deep understanding of distributed systems, and a passion for healthcare technology innovation. You will work on mission-critical applications used daily by clinicians worldwide, contributing to Oracle’s next-generation cloud-native EHR platform. As a technical leader, you will guide architectural decisions, mentor junior engineers, and drive the delivery of scalable, reliable healthcare solutions that improve patient outcomes and streamline clinical operations. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, coupled with 7-9+ years of professional software engineering experience. Demonstrated expertise in developing enterprise-scale backend systems using languages such as Java or Python is essential. A deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, APIs, scalability, and system resiliency is required. Experience in building and supporting cloud-native applications within modern engineering environments is highly valued. Proven leadership skills, including guiding and mentoring teams of 5-6 engineers, are critical for success. Strong knowledge of software design principles, data structures, algorithms, and system architecture is necessary. Excellent communication skills are essential to effectively articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Preferred qualifications include experience with cloud platforms, containerization, DevOps practices, and familiarity with AI-assisted development tools like GitHub Copilot or Codex. Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain cloud-native EHR applications supporting clinical inbox, messaging, and provider workflow experiences.Build highly scalable backend services and distributed systems that support critical healthcare workflows.Develop full-stack solutions with a primary focus on backend architecture, ensuring performance, reliability, and scalability.Collaborate with product managers, architects, and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.Lead technical design discussions and contribute to the strategic evolution of the platform.Serve as a technical leader by guiding architecture decisions and best practices within the team.Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, design reviews, and technical guidance to foster growth and excellence.Lead small engineering initiatives, coordinating efforts across teams to ensure successful delivery.Take ownership of services and applications throughout the entire development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to deployment and support.Troubleshoot complex production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement improvements to system observability, reliability, and operational readiness.Leverage modern AI tools to enhance development productivity, ensuring responsible and effective use of AI-assisted coding and workflows.
