About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Backend Engineer to join our dynamic team and contribute to the development of our core systems powering GrabJobs' innovative platform. This role is pivotal in building reliable, scalable, and secure backend services that support our mission of connecting job seekers with potential employers worldwide. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in backend development, with a passion for creating robust APIs, workflows, and financial product infrastructure that can operate seamlessly across multiple markets and handle millions of users. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, frontend developers, and AI specialists, to deliver high-quality features rapidly and safely.

Qualifications

Proven experience in backend engineering, with a portfolio of production systems that demonstrate reliability and scalability.
Deep understanding of APIs, databases, authentication, authorization, message queues, jobs, events, and third-party integrations.
Experience designing and maintaining services used by real customers or internal operational teams at significant scale.
Strong debugging skills, with a focus on system reliability, security, latency, and data integrity.
Ability to balance technical trade-offs between speed, correctness, scalability, and maintainability.
Knowledge of fintech, payments, banking, wallets, KYC, fraud detection, or risk management is a plus but not mandatory if foundational skills are solid.
Excellent communication skills in English, with the ability to work effectively in a remote, global team environment.
Proven track record of contributing to impactful projects, ideally helping build, ship, or scale complex systems.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain backend services and APIs for core functionalities such as onboarding, account management, payments, cards, transfers, rewards, travel, foreign exchange, KYC, and risk management.
Design and implement reliable systems capable of supporting real customer transactions, operational workflows, and future financial products.
Integrate seamlessly with internal systems, financial partners, payment providers, AI services, and third-party platforms to ensure smooth operation and data flow.
Maintain high standards of backend quality, focusing on system reliability, security, latency, observability, and incident response.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to launch new features quickly, ensuring safety and compliance.
Optimize existing systems by streamlining workflows, automating manual tasks, and removing redundancies to improve efficiency.
Participate in code reviews, testing, and documentation to uphold best practices and ensure maintainability.
Continuously monitor system performance and implement improvements to enhance user experience and operational stability.
