About the role
This role will lead strategy, execution, and team development in support of Symetra’s long-term goals. The role involves defining and leading enterprise product strategy and vision, evolving the product operating model, aligning teams, driving execution, and supporting long-term growth.
Responsibilities
- Define and lead enterprise product strategy aligned with business objectives
- Set priorities, success measures, and investment focus across portfolios
- Ensure strategy is informed by customer insights, research, and market trends
- Translate strategy into clear portfolio plans, sequencing, and execution expectations
- Allocate and adjust investments based on performance, customer outcomes, and priorities
- Evolve the product operating model, including governance and planning processes
- Lead regular portfolio reviews and adjust direction as needed
- Ensure consistent delivery of customer and business value
- Lead planning and prioritization cycles to align strategy, funding, and capacity
- Coordinate cross-portfolio initiatives, including dependencies and sequencing
- Ensure initiatives are delivered on time and achieve intended outcomes
- Align stakeholders and resolve conflicts related to priorities, funding, and resources
- Build strong relationships with senior leaders across the organization
- Communicate product strategy, performance, risks, and tradeoffs clearly
- Lead executive discussions on prioritization and investment decisions
- Represent product strategy in executive and board-level conversations
- Manage key external partner and vendor relationships
- Lead transformation of product practices, operating models, and team capabilities
- Identify and address inefficiencies to improve delivery and outcomes
- Establish standards for discovery, delivery, measurement, and governance
- Develop and grow a high-performing product organization
- Encourage innovation, experimentation, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in digital product management
- 5+ years of experience leading and developing teams
- Experience in workforce benefits, financial services and/or insurance
- Experience working in agile environments
- Strong understanding of product delivery, system implementations, and continuous improvement
- Familiarity with Agile, Lean Startup, or SAFe methodologies
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Ability to influence and build relationships across all levels
- Curious and adaptable, with an interest in emerging technologies
- High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree or higher preferred
